How to Use a Flum Vape — First Puff to Last Puff

Setup is basically zero — every Flum ships pre-filled and draw-activated. Here's the 5-minute walkthrough plus the screen icons that confuse people.

TL;DR · 30 seconds

Every Flum device ships pre-filled, pre-charged (partially), and draw-activated — there's no button to press to start vaping. Inhale on the mouthpiece, the coil heats, vapor comes out. The HD animated screen (Mello, Float Pro) or Smart LED (UT Bar Pro 25K) shows battery level and remaining e-liquid in segments. The UT Bar Pro 50K's screen also indicates which tank is active — click the device button to switch.

Unbox + verify your Flum

Every Flum ships in an outer carton with the inner device box sealed inside. The inner box has a silver scratch-off security code printed on one side. Before you take the device out, scratch the foil with a coin — there's an 8-character alphanumeric code under it. Open Flum's verification portal in your phone browser and type the code. Green check means genuine; red means email us at service@flum-vape.com with the code and order number.

Our crew runs this same scratch step on every box we receive from Flum at the Greenwood, IN warehouse before the pallet goes onto our shelves. If a code fails our verification scan, that box doesn't ship to anyone — full stop. Doing it yourself once you receive your device is the second layer.

Pro tip

Keep the scratch-off inner box for a week after delivery. If anything seems off with the device — flavor tastes wrong, screen acts up, draw is harsh — the code links your unit to a specific batch and lets us track quality with Flum directly.

First puff — draw-activated, no button needed

Take the device out of the inner box. There's no power button to press, no e-juice to prime, no firmware to update. Every Flum ships pre-filled and pre-charged enough to vape immediately (typically 50-70% from the factory). Put the mouthpiece to your lips and inhale gently — the coil heats automatically when the sensor detects airflow, vapor comes out within half a second.

The first three or four puffs may taste slightly muted because the cotton wick is still saturating. By puff five the flavor is at full strength. If you draw too hard on the first puff and get a harsh hit, ease off — the Hybrid 2.0 Mesh Coil in the Mello (or Dual Mesh in the UT family) responds to a slower, longer pull better than a short snap.

Reading the screen — what the icons mean

The Mello 20K and Float Mello Pro 50K have a Mega HD or Smart HD color display that segments out two things: battery level on top, e-liquid level on bottom. Each row reads in 4-5 segments — full = all lit, ~25% = one segment lit. The UT Bar Pro 25K's Smart LED screen runs animated Cosmos patterns plus the same battery/juice readout.

The UT Bar Pro 50K's Mega HD screen adds a third element: which tank is currently active. There's a small A/B indicator that flips when you click the side button to switch tanks. Both tanks show their juice level independently — if you've been favoring Tank A all session, Tank A's bar will be shorter than B.

Red screen or fast blink means battery below 10%. Plug it in. White or steady green means full charge. If neither tank is firing on the UT 50K and the screen is dark, hit the button five times rapidly to confirm the device is unlocked.

Switching tanks on the UT Bar Pro 50K

This applies only to the UT Bar Pro 50K — the only Flum device with two simultaneous flavor chambers. The side button is your tank switch. Click once and the screen indicator flips from A to B. Your next inhale fires Tank B's coil instead of Tank A's. There's no re-prime, no airflow change, no warm-up — just a different flavor on the next puff.

You can switch as often as you want. Mid-puff switches don't work — the coil that's heating completes its hit — but back-to-back puffs alternating between tanks is exactly what the device is designed for. Both tanks share the 50,000-puff total; if you puff Tank A 30,000 times and Tank B 20,000 times, the device hits its rated end.

Service bulletin

If the tank-switch button stops responding, it's almost always because the device locked itself after sitting idle for several days. Click the button five times rapidly within two seconds to unlock. The screen will pulse to confirm.

When the device is done

The end is usually obvious: both juice and battery bars hit zero on the screen, and the next inhale gives weak or no vapor. Some users report a faint burnt taste in the last 50-100 puffs — that's the wick going dry. Stop puffing and discard the device responsibly (vape disposal stations at most US gas stations, or your local hazardous-waste drop-off).

Don't try to recharge a device that's out of juice — the coil will burn dry and either taste terrible or fail to fire. Don't try to refill the pod either; Flum disposables are closed systems and refilling voids the device's safety design. If you finish a device sooner than you expected and want to know per-puff math for your next order, the Flum vape price breakdown has the full math.

Most days, the only "instruction" you need is "inhale on the mouthpiece." The screen is honest about what's left, the device handles the rest. Flum Support Team · Greenwood IN

FAQ

01Do I need to charge before first use?+

Usually no — most Flum devices ship 50-70% charged from the factory. If the screen shows red or only one battery segment when you take it out of the box, plug it in for 30-45 minutes before your first session.

02Why does my first puff taste muted?+

The cotton wick takes a few puffs to fully saturate with e-liquid. By puff 5-6 the flavor is at full strength. If it still tastes flat after 10 puffs, the device may have shipped with a partially dry wick — email service@flum-vape.com with photos and we'll replace it.

03Can I keep using it while charging?+

Yes. All four Flum devices support pass-through use — you can vape while plugged into USB-C. The device caps internal draw at 5V / 2A so a higher-wattage GaN brick won't charge faster.
